This is my Mom's Recipe! I love it as it has a creamy texture and delicious taste. It goes really well with boiled rice.
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
Tur dal (Split red gram or split pigeon peas) - 2 cups
Onion - 1, sliced
Green chilli -1, slit
Curry leaves - 1, sprig
Turmeric powder - 3/4 tsp
Coconut - 1 cup, grated
Cumin seeds -2 tsp
Water - 2 1/2 cups
Salt - to taste
Method:
1. Wash and boil the dal along with the sliced onions and slit chilli. Boil for 3 whistles and 5 minutes on slow fire.
2. Mash the dal with a spoon.
3. Beat the grated coconut along with cumin seeds and turmeric powder to a smooth mixture.
4. In a vessel heat a tbsp coconut oil, put in the curry leaves and the ground coconut mixture.
Saute for a couple of seconds.
5. Now add the cooked dal and salt and stir well.Add water to the dal if necessary. Keep on fire till it boils from the sides. Put off the fire.
6. Serve hot with rice.
