Green gram and raw banana curry

This is another healthy vegetarian gravy I am really fond of.....

Preparation time - 10 minutes + an hour of soaking for green gram

Cooking time - 20-25 minutes

Ingredients:

Green gram - 1 1/2 cups

Raw banana - 2

Coconut - 1 1/2 cup, grated

Cumin seeds - 2 tsp

Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

Curry leaves - 2 sprig

Dry chillies - 2

Turmeric powder - 1 tsp

Garlic - 7-8 cloves

Green chilli - 1, slit

Salt - to taste

Coconut oil - 2 tbsp

Method:

1. Wash and soak green gram for an hour. Then boil green gram, turmeric, slit green chilli and salt in a cooker with a cup of water. Cook on high heat for 2-3 whistles.  Then simmer for 5 minutes.

2. Scrape the raw banana skin and cut the bananas into cubes putting in salt water so that they don't turn brown. Boil with a cup of water, turmeric and salt.

3. Grind the grated coconut along with  cumin seeds, turmeric and garlic cloves to a smooth paste by adding little water.

4. In a vessel, heat coconut oil. Add mustard seeds. When they begin to splutter, add curry leaves and dry red chillies. Saute for a second. Now, add the ground coconut paste. Stir for 1-2 minutes.

5. Add the boiled green gram and cooked raw banana. Mix well. The gravy should not be too thin. It should be thick and creamy.

6. Put it in a bowl. Serve hot with rice or chapatis.
