Moong dal is a very good source of protein and fiber and this is my very own recipe :) Try it out!
Ingredients:
Moong Dal (Split Green Gram) - 1 cup
Green chillies - 1,slit
Tomatoes - 2, chopped
Onions - 2, chopped
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida (Hing) - 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Oil - 2 tbsp
Dry red chillies - 3
Ghee- 1 tbsp
Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp, finely chopped
Method:
1. Wash and soak the dal for half an hour.
2. Chop onions and tomatoes.
3. In a pressure cooker, heat oil. Add mustard seeds. when they splutter, add broken red chillies.
4. Now add the chopped onions and saute till they turn they colour. This should not take more than 10 seconds.
5. Add the chopped tomatoes. Saute the mix till the tomato pieces become soft.
6. Add slit green chillies, turmeric powder, asafoetida and salt. Mix well and add 2 cups of water. Close the cooker. Boil it on high flame for 3 whistles and simmer for 5 minutes.
7. Open the cooker when the pressure is fully released. If the dal seems too thick add warm water to get the desired consistency. Check the salt too.
8. Transfer to a serving bowl. Top it with a tablespoon of ghee and garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves.
