Red Chicken Curry

This is an old recipe that came down from the mom's. It's' made in an earthen vessel, so the real taste :) The yummy taste of the chicken is well-complemented by the dazzling red colour of the gravy!

Preparation time - 10 minutes + 20 minutes of marination

Cooking time - 25 minutes

Ingredients :

Chicken - 1 kg, cut into medium size pieces

Tomato - 2, coarsely cut

Tomato sauce - 1 tbsp

Cumin seeds - 1 tsp

Ginger - 2'' piece

Garlic - 7 cloves

Onion - 3, finely chopped

Red chilli powder - 4 tsp

Coriander powder - 3 tsp

Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp

Garam masala powder - 1 tsp

Vinegar - 1 1/2 tbsp

Salt - to taste

Oil - 4 tbsp



Method :

1. Blend together tomato,tomato sauce, cumin seeds, ginger and garlic cloves to a fine paste. keep aside. Marinate the chicken with white vinegar for 15-20 minutes.

2. Heat oil in an earthen vessel. Add the chopped onions and saute them on high heat till they turn light brown.

3. Add the red chilli powder and saute further for 5-6 seconds. Add coriander and turmeric powders and mix well. Now, add quarter cup of water and mix again. Cook for a minute or two.

4. Add garam masala, marinated chicken pieces and salt. Keep stirring for 5-6 minutes.

5. Add the ground paste and stir for 4-5 minutes. If gravy is required, add one and a half cup of water. Cover and cook on medium heat till done.

6. Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with coriander leaves.
